What Rock Throw does
Rock Throw is a Rock-type projectile move. A heavy boulder that pushes the enemy back.
A Pokemon can learn it if it is Rock-type, which is true of 66 of the 966 Pokemon. It reaches you as a new-move card when you level up, as long as one of your four move slots is free. 53 Pokemon begin a run with it. Each level-up draws three cards by weight from up to six new-move candidates, your move upgrades and the stat cards, so even a good move can sit out several level-ups.
It knocks enemies back.
Rock Throw stats by level
At level 1, Rock Throw deals 24 damage with a 0.7 second cooldown. At level 5 that becomes 35 damage every 0.52 seconds, which is 198.9 potential damage per second against 34.3 at level 1.
Potential damage per second multiplies damage by the number of shots and divides by the cooldown. It assumes every one lands on the same enemy and leaves out the Pokemon's attack multiplier, your cards and the type chart, so treat it as an upper bound for comparing levels and moves, not as a kill time.
| Level | Damage | Cooldown | Shots | Pierce | Potential damage per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 24 | 0.7 s | 1 | 0 | 34.3 |
| 2 | 24 | 0.7 s | 2 | 0 | 68.6 |
| 3 | 35 | 0.7 s | 2 | 0 | 99.4 |
| 4 | 35 | 0.52 s | 2 | 0 | 132.6 |
| 5 | 35 | 0.52 s | 3 | 1 | 198.9 |
| Stone Edge | 63 | 0.52 s | 5 | 3 | 596.6 |

How to use Rock Throw
- Projectile moves aim at a boss within 330 pixels first, then at an enemy touching you, then at the nearest enemy, so this is the kind of move that reaches a boss through a crowd. It waits until a target is in reach before it fires.
- Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug take 60% more damage from Rock moves, while Fighting, Ground, and Steel take 40% less. Enemies with two types multiply both effects. See the type chart.
- Other projectile moves are Ember, Water Gun, and Thunder Shock. The moves list compares all 64.
- Each Reflexes card multiplies every cooldown by 0.92 and each Power card multiplies damage by 1.10. After 5 Reflexes cards the 0.7 second cooldown of Rock Throw at level 1 becomes 0.46 seconds.
- Only the move group in your active slot fires, and every move in the group keeps its own cooldown timer. A bond, which a rift win gives you, fuses loose moves into one group.
- Weather can boost or weaken Rock moves: see the weather guide.
