Stats and Stat Score

Ho-Oh has 118 HP, 116 speed and a 1.42x attack multiplier. The multiplier scales every move it uses, so it is the number to watch.

Compared with the whole roster, its HP is among the best on the roster, its speed is well above average and its attack is among the best on the roster. Weighting attack at half and HP and speed at a quarter each gives the Stat Score of 78.4, which puts it at rank 50 overall, rank 2 of 100 among Johto Pokemon and rank 4 of 76 Fire-types and 5 of 102 Flying-types. The score comes from the game's stat table, not from playtests, so read it together with the best Pokemon guide.

On the full Pokedex ranking Ho-Oh sits next to Ursaluna one place above it and Urshifu one place below it.

Ho-Oh moves

Pokemon that are not starters begin with the signature move of their first type, so Ho-Oh starts every run with Ember: a fireball at the nearest enemy.

The level-up cards can then offer 17 different moves: the 8 Normal moves that every Pokemon shares plus 9 moves of its own types. Moves level up to level 5 and can evolve once you also take the stat card they need, which is covered in the move evolution guide. The permanent Repertoire upgrade adds a second, random starting move; see the upgrades guide.

Weaknesses and resistances

Ho-Oh takes extra damage from Rock (2.4x), Water (1.6x), and Electric (1.6x). It resists Grass (0.36x), Bug (0.36x), Ground (0.48x), Fire (0.6x), Fighting (0.6x), Steel (0.6x), and Fairy (0.6x). The remaining 8 of 18 types deal normal damage. The chart is softer than the main games: a super-effective hit is x1.6, a resisted hit x0.6 and an immunity x0.3, and two types multiply with each other inside the range 0.3 to 2.4. See the type chart guide for every matchup.

The multipliers apply to the damage you take, and enemies attack with the first type listed for them, so the dangerous enemies for Ho-Oh are the ones whose first type is Rock, Water, or Electric, which hit for up to 2.4x. Boss shots carry their first type too. Weather does not change these numbers, but it changes your own damage; see the weather guide. There is no same-type bonus, so Fire or Flying moves do not hit harder just because Ho-Oh shares the type.

How to get Ho-Oh

Ho-Oh is part of the Johto banner. A single pull first picks a rarity (1.5% for Legendary) and then picks one of the 7 Legendary Pokemon on that banner at random, so one pull gives Ho-Oh a 0.21% chance. Every banner has its own pity counter: the 70th pull without a 5-star is always a 5-star, which works out to about 43.5 pulls per 5-star and roughly 305 pulls to land this particular one.

A pull costs one ticket and ten pulls cost ten tickets or one x10 ticket. Tickets are earned in runs, from missions and from chests and are never sold for money. A duplicate turns into 300 coins, or 900 if it is the shiny version. The full odds and the pity rule are in the gacha guide.

Shiny Ho-Oh exists in this game. One pull in a hundred is a shiny, and wild enemies are shiny one time in 4096. Read the shiny guide for the details.

Ho-Oh as an enemy

Ho-Oh never shows up as a regular enemy because 5-star Pokemon are left out of the enemy cast.

As a legendary it can also be the opponent in a rift. The game picks a rift legendary at random and favors the ones you have not beaten yet, then builds an arena from one of its types: Igneous Volcano (Fire) or Sky Peak (Flying). Its attack set is a ground slam, a leap onto your position, falling danger zones, and a fan of shots. See the rifts guide and the legendaries guide.
