How Focus Sash works
After the save you are invulnerable for 1.2 seconds, which is long enough to step out of a danger zone.
It works against a hit of any size, so it is the item that answers the big hits from bosses and rift legendaries. The 60 seconds start at the save.
Bosses hit harder the later they appear. The table shows the body hit of each boss as it spawns, before type matchups, weather and your armor are applied. The fifth boss touches for 205, more than the starting HP of any Pokemon in the game (the highest is 185).
| Spawns at | Boss | Base body hit | Body hit when it spawns |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3:00 | Boss 1 | 41 | 53 |
| 6:00 | Boss 2 | 50 | 80 |
| 9:00 | Boss 3 | 58 | 110 |
| 12:00 | Boss 4 | 67 | 147 |
| 15:00 | Boss 5 | 82 | 205 |
Focus Sash compared with cards and upgrades
No card does the same job. Healing cards restore HP after the fact, while the sash decides whether a single hit ends the run.
Cards come from level-ups during a run and upgrades are bought with coins between runs, while a held item takes the single item slot. The table puts them side by side. The upgrades guide covers the whole shop.
| Source | Bonus | Cost or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Focus Sash | Survive a lethal hit at 1 HP, once per 60 s | Free; uses the item slot |
| Sitrus Berry card | Heals 45% of max HP once | A level-up card |
| Armor upgrade | +2% damage reduction per level (up to 16%) | 2,750 coins in total |
Trade-off and when to take Focus Sash
It does nothing about slow chip damage, and a second big hit inside the 60 seconds still knocks you out.
Take the sash when your build is fragile and hits hard. A low-HP Pokemon with a strong move dies to a single boss touch, and the sash turns that mistake into a second chance and a 1.2-second window to leave.
It does not heal you. After a save you are at 1 HP, so get out of danger and find healing before anything touches you again.
How to find Focus Sash
Held items come from three places. Every boss drops one, and a full run has five bosses, at minutes 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. A locked chest holds one half the time, and an ordinary chest 8% of the time. Rift legendaries drop one as well. The bosses guide lists every boss and the rifts guide covers the legendaries.
Each drop picks one of the 11 items at random with no memory of what you carry, so a given drop is Focus Sash one time in 11 (9.1%). Over the 5 boss drops of a full run that is a 38% chance of meeting Focus Sash at least once, before counting chests.
You carry one item at a time. If you find a second, the game pauses and asks which to keep, and in a group it pauses for everyone. Finding the item you already carry changes nothing: you are told you already carry it and play on. The full list is on the held items page.
