How Rocky Helmet works

Each contact deals 15 plus 4 times your current level in damage to the enemy: 55 at level 10 and 95 at level 20.

Every enemy can touch you once every 0.55 seconds, so a crowd around you takes a hit from each of its members. The damage is flat: type matchups and your damage bonuses do not change it.

The table shows the damage of one touch at five levels.

What one touch can kill

Enemy health grows with time: a tier's base HP is multiplied by 1 plus the seconds elapsed divided by 95. The table shows the health of an enemy at the moment its tier begins, which is the lowest it will be, and the level at which one touch from the helmet is enough to kill it.

A touch can finish a tier 2 enemy at level 11. From tier 3 on, a one-touch kill needs level 32 or higher, which is where the helmet turns into chip damage that your moves finish off.

Rocky Helmet compared with cards and upgrades

No card does this. Armor cards and upgrades make each touch hurt less, while the helmet punishes the enemy for it.

Cards come from level-ups during a run and upgrades are bought with coins between runs, while a held item takes the single item slot. The table puts them side by side. The upgrades guide covers the whole shop.

Trade-off and when to take Rocky Helmet

It only reacts to contact. Shots, beams and boss attacks ignore it.

The helmet is a bonus on top of a defensive build. It pays off when crowds press against you, and it makes staying in melee range cost the enemy something.

It is not a main source of damage: the table above shows how quickly enemy health outgrows it.

How to find Rocky Helmet

Held items come from three places. Every boss drops one, and a full run has five bosses, at minutes 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. A locked chest holds one half the time, and an ordinary chest 8% of the time. Rift legendaries drop one as well. The bosses guide lists every boss and the rifts guide covers the legendaries.

Each drop picks one of the 11 items at random with no memory of what you carry, so a given drop is Rocky Helmet one time in 11 (9.1%). Over the 5 boss drops of a full run that is a 38% chance of meeting Rocky Helmet at least once, before counting chests.

You carry one item at a time. If you find a second, the game pauses and asks which to keep, and in a group it pauses for everyone. Finding the item you already carry changes nothing: you are told you already carry it and play on. The full list is on the held items page.
