How Choice Scarf works
Speed is how you dodge boss attacks and keep enemies from surrounding you.
It multiplies with the Sprint card and the Stride upgrade.
Speed is a stat with its own number for every Pokemon. The table uses the slowest, the median and the fastest of the 966 Pokemon.
| Pokemon | Base speed | Speed with Choice Scarf |
|---|---|---|
| Slowest: Shuckle | 80 | 108 |
| Median: Pansear | 105 | 141.8 |
| Fastest: Regieleki | 162 | 218.7 |
Choice Scarf compared with cards and upgrades
A 35% bonus equals about 4.4 of the 8 Sprint cards you can take, and it multiplies with the Stride upgrade.
Cards come from level-ups during a run and upgrades are bought with coins between runs, while a held item takes the single item slot. The table puts them side by side. The upgrades guide covers the whole shop.
| Source | Bonus | Cost or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Choice Scarf | +35% speed | Free; uses the item slot |
| Sprint card | +7% speed each, multiplies | A level-up card; up to 8 |
| Stride upgrade | +3% speed per level (up to +24%) | 2,420 coins in total |
Trade-off and when to take Choice Scarf
It adds no damage and no healing.
It rewards players who like to kite, and it makes melee moves safer because you can step in and out of range.
It suits a low-HP Pokemon that avoids damage better than a tank that stands in the crowd.
How to find Choice Scarf
Held items come from three places. Every boss drops one, and a full run has five bosses, at minutes 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. A locked chest holds one half the time, and an ordinary chest 8% of the time. Rift legendaries drop one as well. The bosses guide lists every boss and the rifts guide covers the legendaries.
Each drop picks one of the 11 items at random with no memory of what you carry, so a given drop is Choice Scarf one time in 11 (9.1%). Over the 5 boss drops of a full run that is a 38% chance of meeting Choice Scarf at least once, before counting chests.
You carry one item at a time. If you find a second, the game pauses and asks which to keep, and in a group it pauses for everyone. Finding the item you already carry changes nothing: you are told you already carry it and play on. The full list is on the held items page.
