How Leftovers works

The healing is worked out from your max HP at the moment you pick the item up. Vigor cards you take afterwards raise your HP but not the healing, so Leftovers is worth more the later you find it.

It heals without any input, which wears down the steady chip damage of a crowd rather than a single big hit.

The roster starts between 70 and 185 max HP, Vitality adds up to 80 and each Vigor card adds 20. At 185 HP Leftovers heals 2.77 HP per second, and at 70 HP it heals 1.05.

Leftovers compared with cards and upgrades

At 200 max HP Leftovers heals 3 HP per second, which is what 3.3 Synthesis cards give, and it costs no card.

Cards come from level-ups during a run and upgrades are bought with coins between runs, while a held item takes the single item slot. The table puts them side by side. The upgrades guide covers the whole shop.

Trade-off and when to take Leftovers

It gives nothing against burst damage: a boss hit can still take most of your HP at once.

Leftovers suits long runs. Chip damage from a crowd adds up over time, and a steady heal wears that down without any input from you.

If a single burst is what worries you, Focus Sash is the more direct answer. Leftovers pairs well with a sturdy Pokemon: the same item heals 2.6 times as much on the highest-HP Pokemon in the game as on the lowest.

How to find Leftovers

Held items come from three places. Every boss drops one, and a full run has five bosses, at minutes 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. A locked chest holds one half the time, and an ordinary chest 8% of the time. Rift legendaries drop one as well. The bosses guide lists every boss and the rifts guide covers the legendaries.

Each drop picks one of the 11 items at random with no memory of what you carry, so a given drop is Leftovers one time in 11 (9.1%). Over the 5 boss drops of a full run that is a 38% chance of meeting Leftovers at least once, before counting chests.

You carry one item at a time. If you find a second, the game pauses and asks which to keep, and in a group it pauses for everyone. Finding the item you already carry changes nothing: you are told you already carry it and play on. The full list is on the held items page.
