What Toxic does
Toxic is a Poison-type trail move. You leave pools of poison that badly poison whoever steps on them.
A Pokemon can learn it if it is Poison-type, which is true of 78 of the 966 Pokemon. It reaches you as a new-move card when you level up, as long as one of your four move slots is free. No Pokemon begins a run with it, so you only find it on level-up cards. Each level-up draws three cards by weight from up to six new-move candidates, your move upgrades and the stat cards, so even a good move can sit out several level-ups.
It poisons enemies.
Toxic stats by level
At level 1, Toxic deals 6 damage with a 0.3 second cooldown. At level 5 that becomes 13 damage every 0.3 seconds.
The puddles keep damaging whoever stands in them, so what you deal depends on how long enemies stay inside. The table lists every number the game gives Toxic, so it has no single damage per second figure.
| Level | Damage | Cooldown | Puddle size | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6 | 0.3 s | 26 | 3 s |
| 2 | 8 | 0.3 s | 26 | 3 s |
| 3 | 8 | 0.3 s | 26 | 4.2 s |
| 4 | 8 | 0.3 s | 34 | 4.2 s |
| 5 | 13 | 0.3 s | 44 | 4.2 s |
| Poison Gas | 23 | 0.3 s | 55 | 5.46 s |

- Level 5: +50% damage, +30% puddle size
Toxic evolution: Poison Gas
Toxic evolves into Poison Gas when it reaches level 5 and you have taken the Synthesis card at least once in the same run. Once both are true, a golden evolution card is always offered at your next level-up. Until then, the Synthesis card keeps showing up with a note that it unlocks this evolution, so you do not have to hunt for it.
Poison Gas keeps the Poison type and the same slot. Its damage goes from 13 to 23 and its cooldown stays at 0.3 seconds. The move evolution guide lists all 59 evolutions and the cards they need.
- +80% damage
- +25% puddle size
- +30% duration

How to use Toxic
- Trail moves do not need a target: Toxic fires on its cooldown wherever you are.
- Grass and Fairy take 60% more damage from Poison moves, while Poison, Ground, Rock, and Ghost take 40% less and Steel takes only 30% of the damage. Enemies with two types multiply both effects. See the type chart.
- The only other trail move is Flame Wheel. The moves list compares all 64.
- Each Reflexes card multiplies every cooldown by 0.92 and each Power card multiplies damage by 1.10. After 5 Reflexes cards the 0.3 second cooldown of Toxic at level 1 becomes 0.2 seconds.
- Only the move group in your active slot fires, and every move in the group keeps its own cooldown timer. A bond, which a rift win gives you, fuses loose moves into one group.
- Weather can boost or weaken Poison moves: see the weather guide.
