What the Volt Plant is
A rift is a short fight against a legendary Pokemon. When the game opens one, it picks a legendary and then one of that legendary's types, and the arena of that type is where the fight happens. Volt Plant is the arena for Electric. It is a circle about 11 tiles in radius, the fight lasts at most 120 seconds, and the legendary does not suffer the hazards of its own arena.
Puddles that discharge electricity. A moderate number of columns offers some cover.
Volt Plant terrain: electric discharge
Standing in the electric discharge hurts every 0.7 seconds. Each tick takes the larger of 4 HP and 2.3% of your max HP, and it ignores the short invulnerability that follows a normal hit. Armor and damage reduction still apply. The flat part decides the damage up to about 178 max HP, which covers most Pokemon at the start of a run.
Electric or Ground-type Pokemon ignore it completely. That is 133 Pokemon on the roster, or 14% of it. Everyone else should keep moving, because the electric discharge covers about 28% of the arena.
| Max HP | HP lost per tick | HP lost per second | Seconds from full to empty |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 4 | 5.7 | 17.5 |
| 150 | 4 | 5.7 | 26.3 |
| 200 | 4.5 | 6.4 | 31.1 |
| 300 | 6.8 | 9.6 | 31.1 |
Weather in the Volt Plant: Rain
Rain is forced for the whole fight. Water moves hit 50% harder, Electric moves 20% harder, and Fire moves lose half their damage.
The multipliers apply to the legendary's attacks as well. An enemy attacks as its first type, so 6 legendaries here hit harder in this weather (Zapdos, Raikou, Thundurus, Tapu Koko, Zeraora and more).
Moves worth carrying here: Water Gun, Bubble, Hydro Pump, Aqua Ring, Bubble Beam, Thunder Shock, Discharge, and Thunderbolt. The weather guide lists every multiplier.
| Type | Effect on moves of that type |
|---|---|
| Water | x1.5 damage |
| Electric | x1.2 damage |
| Fire | x0.5 damage |

How to fight in the Volt Plant
- Bring Electric or Ground-type Pokemon if you have them. The best by Stat Score are Xurkitree, Zekrom, Groudon, Iron Hands, and Regieleki.
- At 6 HP per second for a Pokemon with 150 max HP, the floor can take more life than a mistake against the legendary. Treat the electric discharge as a wall and fight from the clean ground.
- Every legendary here is a shooter. Columns and distance matter more than raw speed.
- Plan for the clock. At minute 10 the legendary has about 8,600 HP, so you need roughly 72 damage per second for 120 seconds. Its contact hit takes 66 HP and its shots 33 HP at that point, before armor and type effects. The rifts guide has the full table.
- Speed: the legendaries here move at 71 to 98, and the median Pokemon moves at 105, faster than all of them.
What you get for winning
A win gives the same prize in every arena: the legendary joins you as a bond, plus a held item, experience, three tickets and a share of coins, and a ten-ticket one time in two. The legendaries guide lists all 87, and beating one counts toward the legendary achievements in the achievements guide.
